Microsoft 365 pricing and packaging update: July 1 deadline
Microsoft's global pricing and packaging update for commercial Microsoft 365 suites takes effect July 1, 2026. Security and management capabilities expand across E3, E5, and Business suites. CSP partners should lock in current pricing by closing renewals before the deadline.
What changed
On July 1, 2026, a previously announced global pricing update takes effect across all commercial Microsoft 365 purchasing channels, including Cloud Solution Provider (CSP), Enterprise Agreement, and direct. Alongside the price adjustment, Microsoft is expanding the availability of security and management capabilities across commercial Microsoft 365 suites.
The update is separate from the permanent Microsoft 365 Business with Copilot SKUs going live the same day, although both changes share the effective date. The pricing update applies more broadly to Microsoft 365 E3, E5, and Business suites and reflects the expanded security, compliance, and management features Microsoft has been building into these plans throughout 2025 and 2026.
Why CSP partners should care
- Price increase goes live July 1: customers renewing or purchasing new subscriptions after that date will see updated pricing. Subscriptions in progress with existing term pricing are not affected until their next renewal date.
- Security expansion creates upsell motion: the added security and management capabilities across E3, E5, and Business suites give partners a concrete reason to engage customers on upgrade paths to E3, E5, and Business + Copilot.
- Renewals before July 1 lock in current pricing: partners who close renewals before the effective date can retain existing pricing for the full term. Every day past July 1 without a signed renewal means higher cost for the customer at the next subscription event.
- Incentives and promotions available now: Microsoft has activated incentives, promotions, and offers for E3 and E5, as well as Copilot Business bundles and promotions that partners can use to build value into renewal conversations.
Operational checklist
Before July 1 (immediate)
- Identify customers with Microsoft 365 subscriptions renewing in the next 60–90 days. Prioritize those with July–September renewal dates.
- Reach out to renewing customers with a clear conversation: lock in current pricing by signing before July 1, and use the expanded security capabilities as a value anchor.
- Validate all active promotions, partner margin offers, and incentive programs against the updated price list in Partner Center.
- Review the CSP launch kit (partner FAQ, sales guidance deck, customer pitch deck) for the pricing update.
After July 1 (go-live)
- Verify price lists are correctly imported in your catalog, quoting, and billing systems. Compare against the Partner Center price list for discrepancies.
- Confirm SKU availability, terms (annual, monthly, three-year), billing options, and eligibility rules for both existing and new offers.
- Audit the first week of orders for provisioning accuracy, margin applied, billing alignment, and reconciliation variance.
- Give resellers a renewal playbook that uses the pricing change as a natural conversation starter for upsell paths to E3, E5, and Copilot.
